Christian Lacroix Flowers Galaxy Double-Sided 500-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

When couture meets kaleidoscope, the result is 500 pieces of pure, shimmering obsession.

There is something deeply, thrillingly couture about a Christian Lacroix puzzle. Not merely because it bears the name of the Arles-born designer who transformed French haute couture in the late 1980s with his extravagant pouf skirts and riot-of-colour brocades, but because the object itself demands the same patient, obsessive attention that a master atelier gives to a hand-stitched embellishment. Piece by piece, something extraordinary emerges.

The front face is a masterwork of geometric kaleidoscopic design: a radiant eight-pointed star, rendered in striking black and white zebra-stripe linework, anchors the composition. Around it, on a dramatic black ground, cascade hundreds of miniature flowers in every hue imaginable: blush pinks, imperial purples, acid yellows, flame oranges, cool greys and pure whites. These blooms, botanical in their delicacy yet unmistakably Lacroix in their exuberance, create a garden-meets-galaxy effect that is frankly impossible to look away from.

Flip the completed puzzle, and you encounter an entirely different drama. The reverse face is a typographic tour de force: the words CHRISTIAN and LACROIX repeat in an oversized, densely packed blackletter-meets-Art Deco typeface, filling the entire square in bold black and white. Overlaid across this typographic field are Lacroix's own couture sketches, painted in vivid watercolour: ball gowns in tangerine and ultramarine, sculptural silhouettes in acid green and deep plum, the kind of extravagant fashion illustration that once graced the pages of this very magazine.

Both sides are finished with spot UV varnish, a printing technique most commonly associated with luxury packaging and limited-edition art books, in which a high-gloss lacquer is applied selectively to certain areas of the surface. Here, it gives individual elements a discreet shimmer, a depth and mystery that subtly shifts as the light catches the pieces.
